I love this little Coralburst Crabapple Tree!  This tree is so beautiful that every year it’s charismatic Spring spell has me taking new pictures of it, adding to the collection of all the previous years’!

The only thing that really changes is that it gets a little taller.  It’s at it’s height of brilliance now, but it remains a lovely addition to the landscape all year long.

Wild Life Advantages

It’s compact branches are perfect for birds to nest in, which they do.  Not to mention that the bees love it too!  And since the bee population seems to be decreasing from to all the chemicals we as human beings put into the air and earth, I’m all about growing anything that will lure them in to my yard.

I need those bees to pollinate in all the gardens.

Characteristics and Care

Caring for them is pretty basic.  They need some sun and a trim about every other year.  The best time to prune them is late Winter or very early Spring before the branches are full of leaves.  It’s easier to see what you’re doing.

They tend to grow shoots off the main branches that intertwine with each other so it’s easier to see what needs to be pruned while the branches are just budding.

I planted this tree in 2004, so 12 years ago, and it’s still a very manageable size.  These tend to grow to approximately 10 to 15 feet high so it’s a pretty versatile tree.

In the fall it will develop little crabapples which keeps the birds very happy.

I can see it from anywhere in my back yard and it’s the first thing I see out my bedroom window when I wake up in the morning.

It even makes its presence known while I’m brushing my teeth adding a little extra pleasure to the experience (as if clean teeth wasn’t enough).  I never tire of looking at this tree in the April.

I make a conscious effort to check on all of the flowering trees and shrubs every day because this stage lasts for such a short amount of time.  I want to savor as much of their beauty as I can before Spring showers and thunderstorms blow those blooms to the wind.

My white Crabapple tree already looks like it’s been snowing petals on the ground.
