I had one very lonely strip steak in the freezer so making a Pepper Steak Pizza was the perfect way to use it up and spread the love to Tommy and Molly too.

I first used a pound of pizza dough that I made earlier in the day (freezing the remainder of the dough for future use).

I usually take it out of the fridge for an hour or two before I need it so it’s easier to stretch or roll out.  If it’s frozen, I take it out the night before and thaw it in the fridge overnight.

Earlier in the day I did the prep work on some of these ingredients so it would be quick to throw together once Tommy arrived for dinner and Molly got home from her errands.

I had had these pepper rings in the freezer from my garden last summer.  So I took them out in the morning and let them thaw.

I also took pizza sauce out of the freezer which was also made from garden veggies last year.  I make it and freeze it in 1/2 cup amounts in a muffin tin then once it’s frozen solid, I dump them into a zip lock freezer bag to use all winter.  Then when I need to use it, I just take out the amount I need and let it thaw.  Canned sauce from the store is fine too.

Then I took a red onion . . .

and sliced it into half moon slices.  I only used half of this onion.

In a skillet, melt a couple of Tbsp of butter.

Throw in the onion,

and sauté till caramelized.  Then set aside till you’re ready to assemble the pizza.

Then it was time to get the cheese ready.  I used 1/2 a block of feta garlic and herb cheese, cut into small cubes, and 1 ball of fresh mozzarella cheese cut into slices.

I took the steak out of the freezer in the morning and just put in it the fridge.  It was still slightly frozen when I cooked it which was part of my evil plan so that it would be pink in the middle when I sliced it to put on the pizza.

Later in the day, when I was ready to start actually making the pizza itself, I preheated the oven and pizza stone to 450F.  I melted a Tbsp of butter in a skillet along with a little olive oil.  Once the skillet was good and hot, I added the steak seasoned with salt and pepper.  I love the sound a sizzling searing steak!

Having the skillet hot allows the meat to get a dark color on the outside while the inside is cooked to pink perfection!

While the steak was resting, I rolled out the pizza dough and placed it on a rimless cookie sheet with a generous amount of cornmeal for easy transfer to the pizza stone once the pizza was assembled.

Top the dough with the pizza sauce, about 2/3 of the cubed feta

the pepper rings, and then the mozzarella slices.

Unfortunately, I neglected to take photo’s of the next few steps because I had impatient hungry eyes staring over my shoulder while I was doing this.  So I just put the mozzarella on and transferred the pizza to the pizza stone to bake in the oven till the crust was browned and cheese was beginning to get bubbly.  This doesn’t take long. 10 to 15 minutes at the most.

When the pizza was almost done, I sliced the steak into very thin slices.

When the pizza came out of the oven, I topped it with the steak slices, the caramelized onion, and the remainder of the feta.  Allow pizza to rest for about 5 minutes before slicing with pizza cutter.  This allows the mozzarella to set a bit and the feta and onions to warm back up.

Viola!  The finished product to which only a bottle of “7 Deadly Zins” could accompany.  It’s a very sinful pizza!

  • 1 ball of fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 1 strip steak
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup of pizza sauce

Preheat oven and pizza stone to 450F.

Saute onion in 2 Tbsp butter till it begins to caramelize and set aside.

Slice bell pepper into rings and set aside.

Roll out pizza dough on floured surface.  Place onto a rimless cookie sheet sprinkled liberally with corn meal.

Melt remaining butter and the olive oil in a skillet till hot.  Then place the steak seasoned with salt and pepper in the skillet cooking just a couple of minutes on both sides to medium to medium rare doneness.

Let rest on cutting board while you assemble the pizza.

Spread pizza sauce onto pizza dough and top with 2/3 of the cubed feta, the pepper rings, and sliced mozzarella.

Slide onto the hot pizza stone and bake till crust is browned and cheese is getting a little bubbly.

When the pizza is almost done, thinly slice the steak.

Remove the pizza from the oven, top with the steak, onions and remaining feta.  Allow pizza to rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.
